Governors

The Academy Committee meets termly to hear the reports from the Principal and to discuss matters of interest or concern. The Governors are responsible for the appointment of staff and for general oversight of the way the academy is working.

The Westbourne Academy Committee (Governing Body) consists of parents, teaching staff and the local community.

Chair of Governors

Caroline Rayner

Vice-chair of Governors

Michelle Taylor

Parent Governor

Sarah Aspin

I am originally from the North East of England, and moved to Ipswich in 2013. I was appointed as a parent governor in 2017, not long after my child began attending Westbourne Academy. I have worked with young people and their families in various roles throughout my professional career and felt I could share some of my experience in the role as governor, to support the school to build on its existing achievements.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the gym, and reading.

Community Governors

Dr Ron Impey

Vince Sparrow

I am a community governor at the academy, linked to the careers department. I find this very interesting and enjoy supporting the staff and students on careers related visits.

I was senior custodian at the academy for over thirteen years, until I retired in 2017. Since this time I have been a part time exam invigilator and also help at the academy on a voluntary basis.

Reverand Jutta Brueck

I have been the parish priest of St Thomas Church (C of E) on Bramford Lane since October 2015 and have been regularly taking assemblies at Westbourne Academy. I am delighted to be a Community Governor, supporting the school in building on its impressive achievements of the last five years. As a Church of England priest, I am immersed in the life of the local neighbourhood and prioritise involvement with our local schools. I bring experience of living in the UK as an immigrant and volunteer as a befriender with Suffolk Refugee Support.

Prior to moving to Ipswich, I was a parish priest in Cambridge and governor of a primary school. I also bring seven years of experience in Higher Education Chaplaincy in London and Cambridge. I hold a BA in European Business Administration, MSc in Accounting & Finance as well as MAs in Theology and Pastoral Studies.

I love music: singing & listening to a wide range of genres, reading, going to the cinema, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Josephine Winter

I was appointed as a Community Governor in early 2019. I have a degree in History of Art and Fine Art from Oxford Brookes University, and I am currently working as a HR and payroll Team Leader at Schools Choice in Ipswich.

I found working closely with schools to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience and as a result I applied successfully to become a community governor at Westbourne Academy.

This fulfilling role has enabled me to develop my skills and enrich my experience of the education sector.

My experience as an ex student and team leader within the education sector will, I believe be highly beneficial in maintaining and improving the welfare of students and staff at Westbourne Academy.

I am an outgoing and active individual with a competitive personality and a high level of personal fitness.

I recently returned from a year long trip to New Zealand where I worked as a tour guide and presenter in the Pompallier Mission Heritage site in Russell Island and played competitive netball in Hawkes Bay.
