GCSE Results Day 2020
Thursday 20 August 2020 is the date when Year 11 students can collect their results from the Exams Officer in the main hall (10am-12noon). This date was confirmed by the Department for Education on 16/04/2020.
We are not permitted to give exam results to anybody apart from the students themselves unless prior approval has been obtained in writing. As in previous years, we may be taking photographs of students on exam results day and there are likely to be used in marketing material, press releases and on our website. Representatives from the local press could also be present as part of their coverage of Suffolk schools, particularly following the cancellation of public exams due to the coronavirus crisis.
17/07/20 Emailed to parents and students
I hope that you and your families are keeping safe and well. I am writing to provide details of our arrangements for the collection of GCSE grades on national results day, which will take place on Thursday 20 August.
This year’s grades
As you will be aware, this year’s arrangements are very different from those in place for previous Year 11 cohorts. You will know that the academy was required to provide a ‘Centre Assessed Grade’, as well as a rank order, to the examination boards in June.
On the basis of this information, the examination boards will currently be determining the final grades that will be awarded to all students nationally. They will be taking into account a variety of factors, including the previous performance of students, as well as the need to ‘standardise’ the set of exam grades within acceptable grade boundaries.
As a result of the above, the academy are not yet aware of the grades you will be awarded, and will not be permitted to release any information about these until results day itself.
We, of course, hope that you will get the grades you believe you deserve and that they will be the stepping stone to the next stage of your education.
If you would like any further information on the process for awarding grades this year, you can visit www.ofqual.gov.uk.
Results Day – Thursday 20 August
You will be allocated a specific time to attend the academy, in order to collect your results on Thursday 20 August. This will be emailed to your school email address, along with the instructions you will need to follow, in order to comply with the most current government guidance on COVID-19 regulations.
If you are unable to collect your results in person, the alternative options available to you are as follows:
- You can give your consent in writing, so that somebody else may collect them on your behalf
- Your results can be emailed to you
- Your results can be posted to you
Please contact Mrs Wastell, Examinations Officer, by telephone on 07444 141214 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org should you wish to take up one of these options.
On results day, we will give you more information about the arrangements we have in place to help you with your next steps, as well as guidance about what to do if you are unhappy with the grades you receive.
For this year only, it is not possible for individual students to lodge appeals about their grades with exam boards, so we will ensure there is a process in place for logging your concerns with us. If we feel that the grades awarded to a whole cohort are unfair, we may be able to challenge the exam boards’ decisions, although there is no guarantee that even if we do this, we will be successful in changing the grades awarded. If you are unhappy with your grades, there is also an option for you to sit the actual exams in the autumn term, later this year.
Please be assured, that whatever the outcome on results day itself, academy staff will be available to help and support you with planning your next steps and we very much look forward to seeing you then.
